Trucker charged in crash that kills one, injures 17

It can all be part of a normal truck driver's work day to make the 7-hour-and-change drive south from Huntington to Lawrenceville, Georgia. The Atlanta suburb was recently the site of a fiery, 8-vehicle tractor-trailer crash that resulted in a fatality and injuries to more than a dozen people.

The trucker now faces criminal charges, according to a local newspaper report. The question for families that lost a loved one or had loved ones injured in the wreck is whether or not justice can be served in a criminal court.

A 60-year-old trucker faces a charge of second-degree vehicular homicide, the news article states. He is also accused by law enforcement officials of following too closely in the crash that happened on a state highway.

A 62-year-old woman died in the crash when her Toyota Corolla was crushed beneath the big rig and caught on fire.

Nine adults were injured in the multiple crashes, as well as 8 children. The kids range in age from 10 to 17, police said.

Of the 17 people injured, 9 required hospitalization, including a pair of adults who were hospitalized in critical condition. The others injured were treated at the scene of the crashes.

According to a police report, the nightmare began when traffic came to a stop on the highway but the large commercial vehicle did not.

We do not know if the truck driver was distracted, but we do know that in many similar situations, the trucker and the company and his employer can be held financially accountable for the damages to innocent motorists and passengers.

You can speak to a Huntington personal injury attorney about a pursuit of justice and full compensation in a motor vehicle accident.
